The port of Newcastle is situated 10 miles / 16 km east of the centre of Newcastle on the north bank of the Tyne River.

The modern, recently refurbished ferry terminals offer excellent facilities with covered walkways, six check-in desks and automated luggage handling. The terminal handles 800,000 passengers per annum.


Additional freight facilities are available; both DFDS Fjord Line and DFDS Tor Line offer warehousing and haulage services at their respective freight terminals.

The Terminals provide amenities for disabled travellers, and assistance with boarding can be arranged for on request when booking.

DFDS Seaways operates daily sailings to Amsterdam in The Netherlands and two weekly crossings to Gothenburg in Sweden and Kristiansand in Norway. Duration of the voyage to Gothenburg (via Kristiansand) is approximately 26 hours.

The crossing time to Kristiansand is 17 hours and the journey to Amsterdam takes about 16 hours. Fjord Line provides two passenger and freight crossings to Stavanger, Bergen and Haugesund in Norway during the winter, with an extra weekly voyage during the summer. Crossing time for these Norwegian destinations is approximately 27 hours.
