Port of Tyne

About Newcastle, Guide and Tourist Attractions
(Newcastle, Northumberland, England, UK)

Newcastle is a vibrant city with a typical 'Northern' character.

The city is the largest in northeast England, boasting superb restaurants, delightful shops and a buzzing nightlife.

What to do in Newcastle

Newcastle is not that big and many sites are within easy reach by foot. When strolling along the Tyne River you will find two of Newcastle's star attractions: The Tyne Bridge, dating from the late twenties and the futuristic Millennium foot bridge, which was built in 1999. There are some pleasant beaches which offer fun and activities for the entire family.

Tourist Attractions

Newcastle boasts a number of fascinating historical sites. The city dates back to Roman times and parts of the towers and walls of the Roman fort Pons Aelius still exist.

Another popular attraction is the 12th century St Nicholas Cathedral, which can be found on St Nicholas Square. Situated at the top of Grey street is the 135-foot Grey's monument. It was erected in honour of Earl Grey. He was Great Britain's prime minister from 1830 to 1834.

Graingertown has recently been redeveloped and is where classical Victorian architecture has been transformed into a trendy and lively restaurants and bars. Bustling China Town is another fascinating area worthy of a visit.
